Vinyl vs steel siding / comparing vinyl and steel siding materials / Associated Siding & Remodeling of Omaha Ne

With over 40 years experience selling and installing vinyl and steel siding I have seen how they compare over the long term in our Omaha area weather conditions. I have always used the higher end off the product lines such as Ply Gem and Royal building products vinyl siding, and Revere steel siding and now Ply Gem"s new steel siding collection because I had little confidence in the thinner, smaller, cheaper versions of the different siding panels available in each of the different manufacturers product lines and over time I've seen that you get what you pay for is usually true when it comes to siding quality and performance. A very important component is the right company such as Associated Siding & Remodeling that will provide proper siding installation by experienced siding crews resulting in a real home improvement that will last for many years.
To understand the difference between vinyl siding and steel siding lets explore the difference in the materials used to make the siding panels. Vinyl siding is made of a mixture of petroleum products, color pigment, softeners and all the good stuff they mix in to make their product better than the manufacturer down the street they are competing for business with. The point is that all vinyl sidings are not created equal so some have problems with fading, chalking, cracking, shrinking over time as the oils dry out and the product becomes physically smaller, and a susceptibility to hail and wind storm damage. If you have ever seen a house with vinyl siding that looked like someone shot it with a hail stone machine gun you understand the vulnerability of vinyl siding in a hail storm. Something kind of unique about vinyl siding is the amount of expansion and contraction that occurs with the change in temperature making the siding panels grow and shrink always and allot making a 25'6" siding panel change it's length about 1 to 11/2 inches between the temperature extremes. All this constant movement makes it important to have a nice flat surface behind the siding such as 4x8' sheets of foam insulation, not form fitting drop in foam backing unless you like to listen to the siding rubbing on the foam as it moves back and forth, and one of the worst ideas ever, glueing the foam to the back of the siding because the foam and the siding expand and contract at different rates and the foam comes loose.
Here is the good news. If you use a higher quality vinyl siding like the Mastic Quest panel or the Royal Woodland panel, manufactured by a good company, that is thicker and heavier and has really good ingredients in the material formula with longer siding panel lengths and a good warranty and you have us install it, you will be happy with the results for a long time to come. I have had very good results with the many vinyl siding jobs I've done over the years so if you want the most popular and economical siding on the market call us for a free estimate today http://associatedsidingomaha.com

Steel siding is made from a steel alloy with things such as titanium , nickel, chromium etc and my simple explanation is steel siding is a hard material that is very stable and has a very small rate of expansion and contraction ( a 12'6" steel siding panel less than 1/8" of an inch with temperature extremes) so it moves around on your house very little compared to vinyl siding.
Steel siding comes with some different choices for the finish on the outside of the siding panels such as Revere building products Superguard vinyl coating or the Ceadarwood finish with a fluorocarbon computer generated coating with a no fade warranty and their PermaFinish coating with no fade warranty and the new Ply Gem steel siding collection with their no fade unique finish. EDCO and Rollex are other brand choices for steel siding available in the Omaha area.
Steel siding is more expensive than most vinyl sidings on the market but for long term durability, color retention, hail and wind storm damage protection and even Tornado projectile protection compared to vinyl, steel siding wins the which is better (vinyl vs steel siding) battle pretty easily with my 40 plus years of watching houses that had steel siding installed 50 years ago that still look good and have withstood hail storms that damaged the vinyl jobs in the same neighborhood requiring replacement of the vinyl siding.
I have steel siding on my home but with the longer vinyl siding panel lengths and the lower cost of vinyl compared to steel I will be happy to help you decide which is the right choice for your home. Please call us today
